worth seeing Schweinfurt
historic town hall Schweinfurt
Most beautiful Renaissance building in Southern Germany
After the second city ruin in 1554, houses in Renaissance style were built around the market square. Councilors built stately town houses. During this time Nikolaus Hofmann built the Schweinfurt town hall. It was completed in just two years in 1572. Today it is one of the main Renaissance works in Germany.
Today the Tourist Information Office in Schweinfurt welcomes you.
The parlor of the city
A bay tower with filigree work by stonemasons, the coats of arms of the seven electors and elaborate gables adorn the front. You can see neo-Gothic ribbed vaults inside the reception hall of the Old Town Hall.
On the first floor you can visit the lower hall: the parlor of the city of Schweinfurt. Here you will find three well-preserved ornate oak pillars. On the wall you will be amazed by two painted giant sturgeons. According to tradition, both splendid specimens were fished out of the Main in 1575 and 1593.
