Places to Visit
Geldersheim
Geldersheim, or "Galderschum" in dialect, was mentioned as early as 763 and is therefore one of the oldest places in the Schweinfurt district. The community is rich in history: Emperor Otto II and Emperor Heinrich III already stayed in the small imperial palace of Geldersheim in 976. in 1049 and issued certificates.
The large and worth seeing fortified church, called Gadenanlage, still reminds us of these times. The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas from the 17th century is part of the ensemble, and the steeple is from the late Romanesque building. In the nave there are important baroque ceiling paintings and altars. Today, the Gadenanlage is also the site of cultural events and is home to the archaeological museum. The community of Geldersheim also impresses with a well-preserved, typically Franconian townscape and has received multiple awards in the competition "Our village has a future - our village should become more beautiful".
Life in Geldersheim with its more than 2,500 inhabitants is shaped by a lively club life in the cultural, religious and sporting areas. The parish fair, theater performances or the Advent market in the Gaden on the 1st of Advent are just a few of the highlights in the event calendar.
