Market Town Werneck
The market Werneck with its 13 parts of the municipality is in a charming location on the edge of the Franconian wine country and is the most populous municipality in the district. The municipality with its lively villages is rich in history, culture, art, music and sights.
The most valuable legacy is the baroque palace built by Balthasar Neumann with its chapel and the English-style park. Art historians refer to Werneck Castle as Balthasar Neumann's "most mature profane work", a jewel among the castles in southern Germany. "Popularly, the castle is also known as" the little sister of the Würzburg Residence ". Today, a large part of the castle is used as a hospital for the Lower Franconia district and as The castle chapel is accessible and worth seeing, the castle park in the English landscape style with exotic plants and ponds invites you to stroll.
In the municipal area of the Werneck market, there are more than 250 wayside shrines in the districts and in the hallway. The wayside shrine is at the same time a central geographical symbol for Franconia and an expression of the Franconian "way of life". The large accumulation of approx. 600 wayside shrines in the Upper Werntal region is a regional peculiarity. In the district of Egenhausen in the Franconian wayside shrine center, the overall phenomenon of the Franconian wayside shrines is clearly illustrated and illuminated.
On a tour through the market town, you will discover numerous houses in the typical Franconian style, half-timbered houses and old farm gates made of local sandstone in all parts of the village. In Schleerieth and Schnackenwerth, the Gadenanlagen are impressive, the churches in Schraudenbach and Zeuzleben were built according to the places of Balthasar Neumann. The pilgrimage church in Eckartshausen is also worth seeing.
A variety of cultural and culinary events round off the offer: From the Werneck cultural spring to the castle concerts to the lamb festival in Stettbach and the Werneck beer week.
