Niederwerrn
Rural charm meets big city: the suburb Niederwerrn with its more than 8,200 inhabitants consists of the municipal parts Niederwerrn and Oberwerrn and borders directly on Schweinfurt.
Niederwerrn officially appeared for the first time in 1137, and Jewish families had lived in Niederwerrn since the middle of the 18th century. The former Jewish school is now used as the town hall, and the community has set up a library in the former synagogue.
Both districts have their own characteristics. Niederwerrn is still shaped today by the coexistence of the old village center and the young, larger new development areas. At its core, Oberwerrn is a densely packed village with a village ensemble that is well worth seeing, grouped around the Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew, the bakery, the festival barn and the village fountain.
Oberwerrn's largest son is Hugo von Trimberg, didactic poet and educator. He was born here in 1235, his parents were probably Trimberg subjects. His best-known work is "Der Renner", a didactic poem with over 24,000 verses.
The municipality of Niederwerrn has a large number of cultural, sporting and educational facilities and offers numerous leisure opportunities.
