Places to Visit
Schwanfeld
The community is located in the extreme south of the Schweinfurt district, bordering the Würzburg district.
According to the latest research, the Schwanfeld district is an important prehistoric settlement area. The place is one of the oldest rural settlements in Central Europe. Around 5500 BC, immigrants from the ceramic culture began farming and raising cattle here. This time comes to life in the well-worth seeing Bandkeramikmuseum, archaeological finds testify to this era.
Much in the community is reminiscent of a rich history and is under monument and nature protection: the monastery church Heiligenthal (1234), the Israelite cemetery (1579), the old and expanded church (1603) on the place of the old fortified church with Gaden or the old one Castle from the 15th / 16th centuries Century.
The structure of the synagogue and the Israelite school are reminiscent of the village community with a considerable Jewish community since the middle of the 13th century.
