Michelau in the Steigerwald
Michelau im Steigerwald is located with its eight districts on the sun-drenched slopes of the Steigerwald and is surrounded by wine and forest. With small half-timbered houses, the church built by Balthasar-Neumann and numerous hiking trails, Michelau invites you to experience and relax.
A special feature are the many wonderfully beautiful viewpoints along the edge of the Steigerwald. The Vollburg ruin towers high above Michelau, although there is not much of the masonry left.
Wine has a long tradition in Michelau. The wine itself, matured on distinctive Keuper soils, convinces with a variety of strong aromas and flavors.
Michelau was first mentioned around 1050 as "Michelawa". A little more than a hundred years later, the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach purchases land in the area and reclaims the beautiful forest valley.
