Protection against war
In former times fortified churches were asylums against attacks or wars. Farmers securely stored their crop plants there. When danger is imminent farmers were safe, too. The fortified church complex was the best position to defend the village. The church was protecting and protected as part of this complex.
Protection for history
Today you see a long proud history of the free imperial village Gochsheim. The outcome of this are the freedom festivals, which nowadays are immaterial world cultural heritage. To this day centuries-old dances and rite sequences are relived at the annual country fairs. Discover historical equipment of country life at the free Imperial Village museum. A bicycle collection and letterpress apprenticeship workshop complete the collection.
